Writing content for a website can be a challenging task, especially when it comes to selling one's professional services like consulting or coaching. Many people struggle with "blank page syndrome". It's a frustrating and demotivating experience, but here are several techniques and tools that can help you get unstuck and accelerate the writing process.
Role-Playing
One effective technique I use with my clients is role-playing. Imagine your ideal client looking for the services you offer. If you swap roles, what would you want to know about you and your service? What questions would you have? Role-playing can help you identify the key points and information that you should include in your website content.
Authorship Coaching
Another helpful tool is authorship coaching. Working with a coach like me can help you identify your ideal client, clarify your message, and develop a strategy for writing compelling content that will sell your services.
AI Prompts
AI prompts can also be a useful tool for overcoming writer's block. These prompts use artificial intelligence to generate ideas and prompts based on keywords and topics. They can help stimulate your creativity and give you new ideas to explore. I have recently begun using AI in my own process to accelerate my already-solid process, and it has been a great addition to my tool-belt.
On top of these techniques, here are a few best practices to keep in-mind as you write effective website content.
- Identify your ideal client:
Understanding to whom you are writing is crucial to creating content that resonates and actually says something. - Use storytelling:
Narrative is a critical component to memorable and engaging content, much more than a list of facts or features. Weaving your message into a compelling narrative along the Hero's Journey standard plot. - Keep it simple:
Use clear, concise language and avoid jargon or technical terms that may be confusing. - Use formatting effectively: Use headings, bullet points, and white space to break up your content and make it easier to read.
- Always be calling to action:
Encourage your visitors to take the next step whenever it is appropriate, such as in conclusion of page's more informational content.
